The Tests

Theory Test (£23.00)

If you want to drive a car you'll need to pass the driving theory test before booking the car practical driving test.

You need to have a provisional driving licence to take your driving theory test. There are 2 parts to the theory test:

1. the multiple choice part
2. the hazard perception part

Both parts of the test are taken on the same day. You must book your driving theory test in advance. The questions in the multiple-choice part and format of the hazard perception part depend on what kind of vehicle you want to drive.

You need to pass both to pass the theory test.

Practical Driving Test (£62.00)

The practical driving test is designed to see if you:

1. can drive safely in different road and traffic conditions
2. know the Highway Code and can show this through your driving ability

As long as you show the standard required, you'll pass your driving test. There's no minimum number of lessons you must have or hours you must practise driving before you take your test. There are no pass or fail quotas.

Pass Plus

Pass Plus is a training scheme for new drivers. Its aim is to improve your driving skills and make you a safer driver. It can also lead to insurance discounts. The scheme has been designed by the Driving Standards Agency (DSA), with the help of the motor insurance and driving instructor industries, to develop your skills and knowledge in areas where you may have limited experience.

As an indication of its effectiveness, a recent survey of L test candidates carried out by ORC internationalfor DSA, showed that those that had taken Pass Plus 93% felt more confident on the road and 89% considered that their driving skills had improved, as a result of taking the Pass Plus course. There is no test at the end of the course, instead you'll be assessed throughout: you must cover all the modules to complete the course.

Pass Plus Modules

The modules that you will cover on the course are:

Module 1: Introduction & Town Driving
Module 2: All-Weather Driving
Module 3: Out of Town Driving & Rural Roads
Module 4: Night Driving
Module 5: Dual Carriageways
Module 6: Motorways

When you successfully complete Pass Plus you will have demonstrated that you have developed your existing skills and have acquired new skills and knowledge, know how to anticipate, plan for and deal with hazards safely, understand how you can reduce the risk of having a road accident, and can maintain a courteous and considerate attitude to other road users.

Then the DSA will then send you a Pass Plus certificate of completion showing that you have successfully completed the course.
